Tea Party Etiquette

There is, After All, Proper Protocol

Here are 8 simple rules for a tea party that will help all the girls learn grace, poise, kindness and consideration.

1.  It is ok to eat with your fingers at tea time, but if an item is messy use a fork.

2.  At afternoon tea the order of eating items is as follows: First, scones or muffins, then the tea sandwiches and finally, tea sweets.

3.  Even though tea sandwiches are small, one should never put the whole thing in her mouth. Always take very small bites or nibble.

4.  Please place your spoon on your saucer after you’ve stirred your tea.

5.  Never blow on hot tea.  Stir and allow the tea to cool.

6.  Put your Devon cream and jelly on your plate first and then use a fork to take pieces of the scone and spread the cream and jelly on each piece before eating.

7.  Milk is better than full cream for tea.

8.  No need to stick out your pinky at tea time. Just hold your tea cup like you normally would.

Before you know it your little girls will have the proper etiquette for tea parties down to a “T.”
