English Tea Party

In England many people would invite friends over for tea. This was called High Tea. They would dress elegantly as well as have the table prepared with fine tablecloths, fancy tea sets and a three-tiered plate holder.  Why not mimic the best of the best for your Tea Party today!

Spread a white lace tablecloth over the table and set fancy matching plates at each chair as well as a teacup and saucer.

Use cloth napkins instead of paper and fold them in a special design. Place cards are helpful as well as formal!

Serve scones, cucumber, tuna or chicken sandwiches cut in small squares without the crusts, and chocolate candies or chocolate dipped strawberries for dessert. Cake, brownies and cookies are acceptable as well.

Thin slices of meat were served at high in England. You can cut some flowers and set them on the table for a centerpiece.

If the father of the house is at home for the party, have him dress in a suit and play 'butler', giving him a white cloth to carry in his arm. He can pull the chairs out for the ladies and pour the tea for them. Set a bell next to the chair at the head of the table so you can call the butler easily.

Make sure to sit straight and chew with your mouth closed at this English Tea Party!
